Fabric Feelings

For whatever reason, I have long thought myself incapable of the patience that sewing requires. So too, I don't think I quite understood how satisfying it could be. But I felt inspired a few weeks ago, and I felt productive, and I sewed 52 festive pennants. Somewhere in the course of that project, I fell in love.

Now I have begun a series of accessories based on photos I have taken over the years of the great outdoors. Specifically, I am inspired by the intense layers of color and texture that nature boasts. Mostly these projects involve sewing tiny strips of fabric onto larger strips of fabric to create a collage.

Ay! The potential in a fabric store, the feast for my eyes, the feel of fabric on my fingertips, the hum of the sewing machine, the colors & the shapes!

Mayhap I will put up pictures of the outcomes some day. However, many of these works I intend to send to the corners of the world as holiday presents. So, it may be a while before I make any just for myself, or feel like showing them on here won't spoil some of the surprise.

For now I am surprised again to learn, as I so often do, that I can fall in love again.

  1. I love this background of your page: is it a photo you have taken or one from blogger? I have not figured out how to use my own photos for a background on Blogger yet.
